INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

Realising the importance of global and regional alliances to share knowledge and the genetic diversity for food security and sustainability, India has been making concerted efforts to develop close linkages with other countries and internationally renowned agriculture research institutions. IC Division of DARE is the nodal agency for such international Cooperation in the area of agricultural research and education in India.

The Department liaises with foreign governments, UN, CGIAR and other multilateral agencies for cooperation in various areas of agricultural research through bilateral research projects, MoUs and Work plans. While the Green revolution of India can be regarded as a sweet fruit of International Cooperation to some extent, India on its part has helped other countries to achieve food security. The participation of DARE in respect of agricultural research projects is also through other Government of India Ministries like Finance, External Affairs, Commerce and Science & Technology. At present, The Department has more than 40 Memoranda of Understanding/ Work plans of cooperation with different countries/ agencies/ institutes.

India is a member of number of International research institutions including CGIAR, CGPRT, NACA, CAB International, APAARI and ISHS.

DARE also coordinates admissions of foreign students in various Indian agriculture universities/ ICAR Institutes. As India offers quality education at a low cost, the number of foreign students in India studying agriculture and allied subject is growing at a very fast pace.

Another important function of the IC Division is to facilitate continuous updation of skills of Indian agricultural scientists, specially in the frontline and emerging areas of technology. The Department coordinates several training programmes for the NARS scientists.
