The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, has been awarded the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) highest distinction, the Agricola Medal for his contribution to agricultural and social development in India . Dr. Singh is the first Indian Prime Minister to receive the honour. The medal was instituted in 1976.

Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Sharad Pawar has asked the ICAR to reorient research and development in agriculture and bridge critical gaps wherever present. He was addressing the 79th AGM of the Council in New Delhi on the 23rd January, 2008.

Indian agricultural scientists are working on ways to tackle the multi-pronged impact of climate change on agriculture. This includes weighing technological, agronomic and other options and evolving appropriate strategies.
